Media accreditation deadline approaches for OCA’s Asian Beach Games 2016

Danang, Vietnam, July 21, 2016: The Olympic Council of Asia would like to remind media intending to cover the 5th Asian Beach Games-Danang 2016 that the deadline for accreditation is Monday, July 25. The OCA’s fifth edition of the popular beach and sea sports festival will take place in the central Vietnamese coastal city of Danang from September 24 to October 3.

There will be 14 sports, 22 disciplines and 172 events contested in four competition clusters along a 7-km stretch of the coast. Furthermore, the OCA Executive Board will meet on September 24, with the 35th OCA General Assembly the following day, Sunday, September 25 at the Royal Lotus Convention Centre.
Media from within Asia must apply for accreditation through their respective National Olympic Committee affiliated to the OCA. Media from outside Asia, including international news agencies, must complete the registration form attached, scan the completed version and send to the Vietnam Olympic Committee’s Media Officer, Mrs Tuyet Hoa Nguyen, at abg5media@gmail.com. Media must also attach a passport-sized photo.To date, the Accreditation Centre has received over 70 applications from media, photographers and TV outside of Vietnam.
ABG5 will take place on the beach area with a length of 5,000m stretching from Son Tra District’s Man Thai Ward to Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward from 24th September to 3rd October 2016. It is anticipated that about 4,590 athletes and coaches from 45 countries and territories will participate in the sporting event.
ABG5 will have 14 sports, including: Aquatics (Marathon Swimming and Water Polo); Beach Kabaddi; Beach Soccer; Beach Volleyball; Beach Handball; 3x3 Basketball; Beach Sepak takraw; Beach Martial Arts (Wrestling, Sambo, Jujitsu, Kurash, Pencak Silat, Vovinam, Muay Thai, Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts); Beach Badminton; Beach Petanque; Beach Bodybuilding; Woodball; Rowing and Athletics.
The OCA also approved the official logo and mascot for the 5th Asian Beach Games. The mascot features a salangane, a typical bird of the southern central coast of Viet Nam, whilst the logo is designed to represent sand and waves in the shape of young, healthy and dynamic athletes playing sports with the OCA’s symbol inside.
